Will I be able to rely on gadgets.window.getViewportDimensions() to tell me where the application is being shown?

Re: Regarding the new profiles

Hi Dylan,

Profiles 2.0 are handled completely differently. The user gets complete control of the layout in v2.0. The concept of fix width columns, as in 1.0, is not valid anymore. Since you can't be sure of user's profile version, and as an app developer you would want widest possible adoption for your application, it is advisable that you take into account the maximum and minimum width possible. The v2.0 profile can be single column or as many as three columns.

We are in the process of updating our documentation and this is one of the things on the anvil.

Thanks for your comments.

I'm in the process of finishing up and application's development. In order to test the app I created a new account and added it as a developer (after realising that the tester stuff is not working as it should). After I'd installed the app on this new account I went and had a look at the profile view. It seems that the app is appearing on the left hand side, even though the settings of the app's profile surface say that it's only to appear in the right column. Being a new account, I assume it was using profile 2.0 and the app appears fine if I revert to profile 1.0.

So, rather than this being a bug report, I need to know if applications are going to need to support both widths (for left and right columns), rather than be able to pick one width and design according to it. If so, can you please make this information more available to developers so they don't get a surprise when they are nearing a release?

Thanks :)
