Yourminis Widget - Application offers no core functionality other than redirecting away from Myspace.

    In regards to this application:

    http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=395695730

I got the response:  Application offers no core functionality other than redirecting away from Myspace.

What *does* an application have to do to deem it acceptable?  This is just a simple widget that allows users to search for Youtube videos and then view them.

Please allow me to vent my frustration with this whole publishing process.  Myspace not giving developers the freedom they *need* to develop and test applications, which is going to hurt Myspace's platform more than help it.  I feel like I am guilty until proven innocent with Myspace's submission process.  When developing a similar app for Facebook, I had no issues or restrictions, or nearly as painful of a submission process.  If I want to develop a simple widget that just links out to a page, who am I hurting?  Some clarification would be greatly appreciated.

     Thanks,

If your need is just testing from multiple accounts, log in under the app's profile and add them as friends.  Once people are friends of an app they may install and use the dev version.

To contest the rejection you should be able to reply to the email (or an address within) and get resolution that way.  If that fails contact Rondata - the Community Manager.  She can work with you to find out what can be done to get your app live.

The rejection email that was sent to me says "Do Not Reply To This Email" and the link you provided does not tell how to contact rondata.

Can you please tell me how to contact Rondata?  Thanks.

Regarding application denails or status, I would be the main contact.  I work with Rhonda but I specifically handle these questions.

I looked at your app and you're right, lack of functionality should not have been used to deny the app.  I have brought this up to the review teams and will not be a problem moving forward.

Please republish for review.  You should be good to go as long as there are no other issues.

     Thanks Johnny,

I republished but it appears there are other issues now:

" User Experience / Functionality [contain search] Application contains search boxes on home and profile surface."

Are search boxes really not allowed?  The search boxes don't direct outside myspace, they perform searches within the widget.  This is getting a bit silly, if there are some restrictions to building apps they certainly weren't readily apparent to me... I would really love to have our platform running on Myspace apps instead of the somewhat hacky method we use at yourminis.com right now to post to Myspace, but if there continues to be denials like this, I don't think all of our clients will have an easy time creating apps to run on your platform either.

     Thanks!

    Hey Hart,

Your app is currently not loading, but from what I can remember, your app is searching YouTube.

You can have search on the Home/Profile Surface if it's a proprietary search looking within contents of the app.  Again, from what I can remember, your app doesn't have content.  Everything feeds off of YouTube.

Re: Application offers no core functionality other than redirecting away from Myspace.

Let me explain more clearly what I'm trying to do so that maybe you can tell me whether it's feasible or not.  Basically, I want to be able to copy any widget from yourminis.com into a myspace app.  The youtube widget just shows up in the app by default if you have not specified a widget in the parameters when the user does the copy to myspace action from our site.  Honestly, the fact that Myspace somehow thinks this dumb youtube widget is unacceptable makes me pretty frustrated.  Yes, you can search for porn in the widget (not that youtube has any content that is sexually explicit anyway.

I understand that Myspace is trying to appease the paranoid moms of 13 year old kids that are going to see pornographic material on Myspace regardless of the fact that my dumb youtube widget will not be on there, but if Myspace wants my 2 cents, if you try to please everybody, you will end up pleasing nobody. Myspace is killing the exact same freedom that allowed it to conquer Friendster... and now they are headed down that same path as Facebook takes the crown.

I'm going to submit another app (a stock widget, hoping that Myspace doesn't throw a fit )... if that fails I give up.

As long as your app is following our Terms of User and Application Guidelines, you won't see any issues from us.
