    A Newbie Guide!

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say a nice, simple newbie guide on how construct an app that connects and gathers information from a MySQL database (with PHP) on an outside website would be an excellent resource for the people that have never used OAuth or OpenSocial before, or JSON for that matter.

I'm faily decent with Javascript, PHP, and MySQL, but the platform is still giving me nightmares on how to connect between sites and deliver information securely. An example with the complete files involved would be excellent. Perhaps the person up for the task could provide a donate link, or even sell the information. Personally, I would pay to receive this info ($25-$50), as it would save a lot of time sifting through the documentation that makes no sense to a large share of interested developers without an application background using opensocial or oauth.

If anyone would consider it, I'd be happy to share my views of what I don't and do understand about the platform from reading the documentation thus far. I can't stress how important the complete files needed are - it delivers a total understanding of how everything works together, without having to guess.

    Hi Nick,

Not only are we considering it, it's on our TO DO list.  As you can imagine we have alot going on right now as we are still in the initial stages of MDP, and of course we would love to hear your thoughts on it, as well as anyone else who might have input into what would be a 'nice to have'.

I can not give a drop dead date for this, but it is in progress.

     Peace,

Hey there Rhonda, thanks for your reply. May I ask if the MySpace is still planning on opening applications to the public in March?

    Thanks!

I think a sample app will be a good start - the one in the docs is not that useful.

FB has footsteps, Bebo have a simlar (but buggy) sample too.

My personal experience is that learning from code is always better then going through pages of docs.

I love the try and fry method!!!

But it's always nice to have guidelines ;)

Hey I resemble that remark ;)

I have been writing for a lot of years.

I've learned to cut out the fluff and just leave important informational details.

We don't want anyone trying to weed through a bunch of info that is really not important.

That's what we're going for here! I want something easy that everyone can use.

Again, I love the try and fry method, but there's no use in reinventing the wheel and spinning in circles when we may have some of the answers to some of your most important questions.

Again, that’s what we’re aiming for!
