Retireving new messages, friends requests, comments, etc

For a desktop application (using REST I guess) is there a way to retrieve details about new messages, friends requests, comments, etc, a user has? By details I mean especially their count (how many each) but not only, can be things like: from whom, message subject, comment body, friend email, etc.

     Thanks...

The REST resource 'indicators' will return boolean values indicating whether or not new comments, freind requests, messages, etc. have come in since the last time the user checked, but no details. So, no. At least, not yet.

     OK, thanks.

You think it would be a good idea to enhance the API to return at least the number of new items instead of a boolean value? What I am thinking is that it's better to display to the user "You have X new messages" than "You have new messages". Plus, say an app polls every 5-10 minutes or so the flag and notifies the user with an SMS. Would be nice to SMS for each new message (same as getting a new email on a BlackBerry, you are notified for each of them). With the boolean flag, you can send an SMS for the first new message. Subsequent ones can't be notified.

     That was my 2 cents.

    Cheers...

I also would find it very usefull if the number of unread messages was available.
