Greetings Developers,
Here are some tips to help you troubleshoot members who are having application loading problems.
You may have also noticed that we have a running thread titled CANNOT LOAD ANY APPS where we have been working individually with members trying to solve these issues. During our own troubleshooting we have discovered a few tips that have helped get members back on the right track. Some of these fixes worked instantly. I've detailed this list out below. If you need more suggestions, please see the app thread linked above. As always, feel free to message me directly to my profile.
So without further ado, if your members are having a ......
Problem loading applications
Example: Many times members state that they can't load apps at home. They can load them on their work computers but not on their home computers. They also say that it works when they're using them at a friend's house, but not at their own house on their own PC. The first clue that it's not a myspace.com wide issue is the fact that only certain members cannot use them.
Below are a few examples of issues that have caused problems with applications. Please be aware that if all members are having issues with all apps, then it's a side wide issue. Check into the forums if you see these kinds of problems.
Troubleshooting Apps Not Loading:
· Known issue - Apps in application box on homepage display the following error: There was an error trying to load apps, please try again later. Trying to GET or MANAGE apps from that box throws a generic exception.
· OS prior to Windows 2000
· I.E. browser prior to 7 - or browser not up to date
· Computer needs to be reboot
· Computer needs to clear cache and reboot
· Machine does not have JavaScript enabled on their browser
· IE users have switched to the newest Firefox and fixed the issues
If after these steps, and realizing that it's not a site wide issue, it may just be that the member's computer may not be capable of loading apps. This could be because of an old machine, and old operating system or settings on either their machine or router that's causing issues with their browser.
To verify that this issue is specific to the PC, I request that the member try to log in from another computer. It could be one in the house or outside the house, at the library, or a friend's house. The majority of the time that I've gone through this with members, in the end it was the computer they were using and not a MySpace issue.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
