Set Phasers to Publish!

As I mentioned in my last blog post, today (3/13) marks the next phase for the MySpace Developer Platform. We are going live with our beta Apps Gallery. You can view it now at apps.myspace.com All approved applications will show up in the gallery, and all MySpace members are able to install those apps and see them running on profiles, their home pages, and canvas pages.

The goal for this phase is to get your apps out of the sandbox and into the real world of MySpace, which will enable you guys to build better apps and allow us to continue to enhance the platform quickly and efficiently, focusing on the things that matter most.  As always, end-user experience is paramount, and as both applications and the platform itself mature over the coming weeks, users can expect to see  increased exposure of the gallery and applications across MySpace. We will be following-up soon with more detail on our roadmap.

Getting your application into the gallery is straightforward. When your app is ready for end-users, simply click "Publish" from the MyApps view in your developer account here in the MDP site. At that point your application will go into "Pending" status, and will enter the queue to be reviewed. To be approved, your app needs to meet basic criteria:

  • Your App must not violate the Developer Terms of Service and must comply with the Application Guidelines
  • Your App must have small and large images uploaded, and must have a meaningful description
  • Your app must meet a reasonable standard of functionality and value (hint: "hello, world" does not make it)

We're reviewing apps on-going as they are submitted, and we're doing our best to make the process smooth and efficient.

Lots more info and developments will be coming soon, so stay tuned. I'm looking forward to seeing your apps in the gallery!

/Kyle

How long approximately does the approval process take?  I hit publish 4 or 5 days ago, and my app is still pending....

I'm just dissapointed that myself and many other people that submitted last week are missing out on the launch because of a bug.

What's the point of publishing our apps if all you do is reject them?

myspace.com/herdaword

myspace.com/playjetman

Just 2 for starters, okay?

I can't get my apps approved because I cannot fully test them.  I can't test them because only 1 developer can add them.  I cannot test with only 1 person!
