On your marks...

You may have noticed some new functionality in "My Apps": there's now a "Publish" button for every application you've created.

If you click "Publish", the status of that app will change from "Development" (formerly "Test") to "Pending". This button lets you tell us that your application is ready to go live to consumers. You should only click this button when you feel your app is finished and ready to be reviewed.

So what does this all mean? We're getting very close (as in weeks) to opening our beta Apps Gallery to consumers. :)  The next date you should be aware of is Thursday, March 13th, when we will be expanding significantly the exposure of approved applications to MySpace members. The sooner you get your app(s) finished and submitted (by clicking "Publish"), the more likely it is to be reviewed and available to users on that date and beyond.

You're probably also wondering what the app review process entails. Here's a quick summary of requirements for app approval:

  • Your App must not violate the Developer Terms of Service and must comply with the Application Guidelines
  • Your App must have small and large images uploaded, and must have a meaningful description
  • Your app must meet a reasonable standard of functionality and value (hint: hello, world" does not make it)

The primary purpose of the review process is to ensure security for MySpace members. We'll be providing more details on that aspect soon.

All applications have been approved for dev access (and are every morning and night). There shouldn't be any real "waiting" - apply again?

When I click on the publish button, I get a message saying that an error occurred. Nothing else.

Also, when I click on edit-app details and try to change the category (or anything) and click Save, I get an error.

Andrew, can you go post the bug over in the forums so all the devs see?

Thanks

What does "Your App must have small and large images uploaded" mean? Can you please be more specific? I really want to get this right!

Thanks

Your app needs to have small and large icons for the gallery - the app details area has the area for uploading those icons.

When should we be submitting apps in order to have them approved by the 13th? And once approved, are there any restrictions regarding further changes to the app?

Our app (3D room , virtual world) has some module ready and it can be used as is. Can we publish now, or should we wait full features availability? also , if for any  reason its not approved, then can we re-publish at any time?

I noticed that when I use the RSS feed for this developer blog in my RSS reader, it doesn't update with the newer stories.  I figured out why:

If you look at the actual RSS code for this feed, you'll see that the guids for the most recent stories are all the same.

This is causing my RSS reader (and many others, no doubt) to assume these are duplicate stories.  But they're not...
